Porcelain Veneers What to Expect
Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that can be used to address a variety of dental concerns. For instance, porcelain veneers can correct the following:
- Worn or damaged teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Minor alignment issues
Dr. Andrews will evaluate your smile to determine if porcelain veneers or another cosmetic treatment is right for you. Tooth bonding is a less invasive, cost-effective alternative to porcelain veneers, and can often address some of the same cosmetic concerns as porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers are customized to match each patient’s unique needs. To create a smile that will best suit your dental health and aesthetic needs, Dr. Andrews will thoroughly evaluate your teeth and discuss your cosmetic goals.
The full porcelain veneer process may require 2-3 visits to our Destrehan dental office. After the initial evaluation, to prepare the teeth for veneers, Dr. Andrews may need to remove a thin amount of tooth enamel from the teeth to make room for the veneers. Each veneer is color matched, shaped, and molded to meet each patients’ specific aesthetic needs. After the teeth are prepared, Dr. Andrews will take impressions of your teeth, which are then sent to a dental laboratory for the fabrication of your porcelain veneers.
When the porcelain veneers are completed, Dr. Andrews will check the fit and quality to ensure it blends seamlessly with your natural smile. Dr. Andrews will then adhere each veneer to each tooth. The veneers are polished to reveal natural looking, beautiful new smile. Porcelain veneers are designed to last for many years with good dental hygiene and routine dental care. Dr. Andrews will monitor the condition of your restorations over time to look for any signs of wear or damage that should be addressed.
